Exodus 32-33 done.
I’m beginning to understand that part of the reason God had the Israelites wander in the desert for 40 years was that they needed to be broken of the habit of searching for gods around them. In Egypt they must have been so inundated with polytheism that it bled into their culture. The second that Moses was out of sight, they figured they needed a god and had Aaron make them one, as if they were lost without something to fixate on.
And then God gets so fed up with them that He literally tells Moses, “I can’t be around these people. They’re so annoying already… if I spend even a moment with them, I’ll kill them all.” They’re incredibly lucky that Moses was around to advocate for them.
Thankfully, Moses has left Mount Sinai after the looooong list of building instructions and rules for society. 7 chapters till Leviticus WOOOOOO! :)
